Andrew Fifita has withdrawn from the Australian Rugby League team and will join the Mate Ma'a Tonga, it was confirmed today.

Australian Rugby League coach Mal Meninga said today that he received a phone call from Andrew Fifita this morning.

Mal Meninga told the Daily Telegraph “Andrew called me and said he was passionate about playing for Tonga and I respect and support that decision.”

“It is obviously a significant boost for Tonga as well as the World Cup — and international Rugby League in general”, he added.
