Girls mark International Day of Peace [1]

Some 35 girls from various secondary schools in Tongatapu are holding a Girls Empowerment Camp from September 19-23 as part of activities marking the International Day of Peace.
September 21 is the day declared by the United Nations General Assembly for promoting unity.
Vanessa Heleta, Director of Talitha Project the organizer, said on this day, the girls composed and sang songs, read out poems and speeches on the theme this year, ‘Together For Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.’
Linda Folaumoetu'i, CEO for the Office of Ombudsman, a guest speaker, encouraged the girls that they have potential and a good future ahead and they were there to support them.
She said as a representative of an office that tries to resolve problems and a peace maker for this country, they would always encourage young girls to work together and achieve their goals in life.
Participant Amylia Katoa (14) from Takuilau College, said peace starts from home, when the mother and father stand together and work together then children will follow.
Another participant ‘Anaise Fakaua (15) said peace starts from the leaders.
FemLink Pacific, Fiji funded the program.
Meanwhile, the girls aged 13-15 are holding various empowerment activities during their camo, at the Tonga Girls Guide compound.
