A Tongan team is competing at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games at Turkmenistan, which had its opening ceremony on September 17.

The athletes competes in swimming, taekwondo and weightlifting.

From the swimming team and management are Finau ‘Ohuafi, Noelani Day, Finau ‘Ohuafi, Charissa Panuve, Andrew Lapuka, Tevita ‘Ohuafi and Vila Day.

Taekwondo is led by Master Baik with ‘Uluaki Sitapa, Luke Uhi, Sione Tufi, Mele Paseka and Konifalanisesi Sisifa with Sateki Langi from weightlifting.

Chef de Mission, ‘Amanaki Fakakovikaetau said they arrived safely on September 15, with the competion starting this week.

Tonga joins 15 other members from Oceania that were invited by the President of OCA (Olympic Council of Asia), Sheik Al Fahad Al Sabah through ONOC President, Dr Robin Mitchell to the games.

The opening ceremony parade showcased athletes from 65 countries from Oceania, Africa and Asia competing for a week.
