A 25-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the death of a 51-year-old man, whom he is alleged to have assaulted on a road in Ma’ufanga early Saturday morning, July 8.

Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said today the assault took place near ‘Ahopanilolo Technical College, at around 1:00am.

The victim who has not been named was walking on the road. The accused who was in a vehicle saw him and allegedly got off and assaulted him, resulting in severe injuries that included his head. Alcohol is reported to have been a factor in this offence.

He said others who were in the vehicle got off and stopped the accused and rushed the victim to Vaiola Hospital. He died on the same morning.

The accused who turned himself in to police remains detained in custody as investigation continues, said the Acting Chief Superintendent.

The deceased is reported to have been from ‘Ahau but was living in ‘Anana.
