Ophelia Kitiliti Kava (23) was crowned Miss Heilala 2017 early this morning Saturday 8 July, at the Miss Heilala Ball held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall. The Auckland receptionist entered the contest as  Miss Apraxus New Zealand.

During the week's judging events Ophelia was placed second in the Talent and Tau’olunga competitions and third in Sarong wear.

She lives in Auckland and works as a medical receptionist at the East Tamaki Healthcare.

"My job has given me a chance to socialize with the community, the majority being Pacific Islanders. I love serving the community," she told Matangi Tonga.

But her dream job, says Ophelia is to one day work as a flight attendant for Emirates Airlines.

The new Miss Heilala was crowned by Miss Heilala 2016 Laura Lauti with Hon. Lupepau'u Tuita Taione.

The first runner-up was Miss Tuitui Fashion - Titania Matekuolava, second runner up Miss S&S USA Store - Linga Tamoua, 3^rd runner up Miss Tonga Tourism - Margarita Havea, and 4^th runner up Miss Havelu Park - ‘Etina Paea.

The ball, which concluded the 2017 pageant, attracted a full house to see the 16 contestants beautifully dressed in their evening gowns.

The Miss Heilala won a $5,000 cash prize, a return ticket for two to San Francisco and other prizes.

The Miss Tau'olunga competiton was won by Loumaile Lodge Lilipeti Manu who is expected to perform at half time at the 'Ikale Tahi vs the Flying Fijians this afternoon, at Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium.

This year modelling training with expenses paid was offered to three of the contestants by Mele Lilo from Salt Lake City, CEO of Exalt Fashion. The three were Miss Tonga Tourism, Miss S&S USA Store and Miss Sustainable Tourism.
