King Tupou VI on 22 June 2017 appointed three new "Law Lords". Mrs Linda Simiki Folaumoetu’i (Tonga's first woman Law Lord), Mr Michael Dishington Scott K.C. and Mr Tu’inukutavake Barron Afeaki.

Mrs Linda Simiki Folaumoetu’i, a former Tonga Solicitor General, is the CEO of Public Relations Commission Office. Mr Michael Dishington Scott K.C. is a former Chief Justice of Tonga, and Mr Tu’inukutavake Barron Afeaki is an Auckland barrister.

Following their appointments, they become members of the two Standing Committees of the Privy Council, the Judicial Committee and the Judicial Appointments and Discipline Panel.

The Judicial Committee also includes, Lord Dalgety Q.C. (Chairman) and Lord Tupou K.C.

The Judicial Appointments and Discipline Panel also includes Lord Chancellor Waalkens Q.C. (Chairman), Lord Chief Justice Paulsen and the Acting Attorney General Mr ‘Aminiasi Kefu S.C.

It is not yet clear whether or not the three new members will be called "Lords" and "Lady" as titles. The Lord Privy Seal said this evening that they should be referred to by their usual names.
