Oscar Taione (31) a fireman recruit died on Friday morning, May 19 after collapsing during a training run at Pelehake.

A post mortem is expected to be held sometime this week to determine the cause of death, at Vaiola Hospital.

Fire Commissioner Lofia Heimuli said today, Taione was one of five firemen recruits taking part in a joint training program with HMAF and Prisons at Taliai Camp, situated beside Fua’amotu International Airport.

The report received said that he and other recruits were jogging from the camp to the intersection at Pelehake and return back to base.

He was reported to have collapsed when they reached the intersection and died while he was being rushed to Vaiola Hospital.

"The cause of death remains unknown at this stage as we are waiting on the post mortem. We have not been able to see the body until after this," said the Fire Commissioner.

More information should be known later in the week.
