The drainage work at the Teufaiva Outdoor Stadium is expected to officially start next week after the arrival of a shipment of materials by the contractor Field Drainage Specialists Ltd from New Zealand.

The laying down of the new drainage at the stadium will start first. At the same time, the Government of Tonga has started the work to upgrade the toilet faciilities, stated the Sports Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs today.

The Government of Tonga through the Ministry of Internal Affairs on 10 March, signed the contract with Field Drainage Specialists Ltd to carry out part of this construction works for the 2019 Pacific Games.

Part one of the proposed works is to be completed in June 2017, with part two set for December 2017.

This part of the project is funded through a development initiative from the Government of New Zealand. Design work for the remaining of Teufaiva Stadium is currently underway, stated the Sports Division.

Meanwhile, the construction of the track and stadium was committed to be funded by Papua New Guinea.
