Tonga's under-19 rugby team was defeated by Fiji 22-14 at the Dubai Exiles RFC, Division B final, on 21 April.

Tonga took the lead in the second minute of the game when fly half Richard Havili sliced through the Fijian defence and touched down close to the posts and was converted by scrum half Samisoni Fisilau.

An IRB report of the game said that Tonga played well during the first quarter then gradually the Fijians started getting into the game by recycling possession for long periods which eventually enable flanker Sakenasa Aca to cross the line and score. Seremaia Tagicakibau converted, and at the break it was 7-7.

Fiji however took control of a good part of the game in the second half. They scored two more converted tries, and also successfully converted a penalty.

The Tongan boys fought back and at injury time Semisi Fotu scored a try and was converted by Samisoni, and the score at full time was 22-14. With its victory over Tonga, Fiji was promoted to Division A.

After the game, the Tongan captain, Paula Havea said, "Our boys put in a great effort, they really wanted to win but after the first try in the second half some heads went down."

The Tongan coach Fe'ao Vakata said that the Fijian deserved their victory. "We let Fiji back into the game after our first half try. We made mistakes in the second half."
