Built on a historic site, a new residence for the Free Wesleyan Church in Kolovai called Kokanavela II (Cokevernal II) was commissioned by HM King Tupou VI on Christmas Eve, at Hihifo, Tongatapu.

With a special prayer ceremony, the event not only commissioned the residence but also commemorated the 190th anniversary of the establishment of Kokanavela II, at a place called Ameloke (America), since 1826 when the land was given by Ata to Wesleyan missionaries.

Revd. John Thomas and Revd. John Hutchinson set up the Wesleyan mission at this home place, after arriving with their families from England.

The new home construction and landscaping is reported to have cost around $400,000 pa’anga raised by the church.

King Tupou VI was accompanied by Queen Nanasipau’u.FWC President Rev Dr ‘Ahio, Secretary Rev Dr Tevita Havea and many members of the church and guests attended.

This residence will be occupied by the FWC Reverend in Kolovai.

The church has published a book with a short history of the location and its residences.
