China to build Tonga High School sports complex [1]

China has committed to provide financial assistance to construct a new Tonga High School Sports Complex for the 2019 Pacific Games, and construction is expected to start soon.

A Letter of Exchange on the Chinese aid to implement the project was signed by the Chinese Ambassador HE Mr Huang Huaguang and Minister of Finance and National Planning Hon ‘Aisake Eke, on 14 December.

The main construction includes one indoor gymnasium, a rugby field, four outdoor netball fields, two outdoor swimming pools, one lawn bowling field and ancillary facilities.

The assistance to support the construction of the sports facilities will not only support Tonga in the hosting of the 2019 Pacific Games but also bring convenience to local people in their physical activity, said the Chinese Embassy in Nuku'alofa.

The amount of the Chinese funding and the cost of the project has not been released.
