A Senior Police Officer has been suspended from duty today after reports that he crashed a police car into the entrance gate at the Queen Salote Wharf, early Saturday morning November 19.

Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell has directed a criminal investigation into the circumstances around this incident.

He said today no other vehicles were involved and the car is believed to have collided with a fence.

“I have set standards and expect them to be met from all ranks within the Tonga Police,” he said.

The investigation is expected to take several weeks.

The suspended senior police officer was not named.
