458 cannabis plants seized in ‘Eua [1]

Two men have been arrested and charged in relation to 458 cannabis plants uprooted and seized together with an unlicensed .22 rifle during two police search warrants executed in a bush allotment in 'Ohonua on the outer island of 'Eua on November 15-16.
The 458 cannabis plants is estimated to have a street value of around $200,000 pa’anga.
Chief Superintendent Tevita Fifita said today this operation began after a member of the public reported to police the sound of a gunshot at the bush allotment on Tuesday morning, November 15.
Eleven officers from the Tactical Response Unit and the Police Drug Squad in Nuku’alofa were deployed to the outer island to assist the police in 'Eua in 'Operation Parrot 'Eua'.
“Tonga Police is committed to disrupting the supply of drugs and preventing the harm this illegal activity supports. It only takes one call to police to stop crime and the availability of drugs in your community.”
He said one of the men has been charged with the possession of the cannabis plants, while the other is charged with possession of the firearm, the .22 rifle without a license.
No one was hurt or reported to have been injured from the gunshot.
The police operation continues.
