Pacific Sports Ambassador Valerie Adams to visit Tonga next week [1]

Shot Put champion Valerie Adams will visit Nuku’alofa next week promoting healthy lifestyles and sports participation as part of her newly appointed role as New Zealand’s Pacific Sports Ambassador.
The 32-year-old New Zealand elite athlete is a four-time World champion, three-time World Indoor champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time Commonwealth gold medalist, among a long list of achievements.
Valerie, who has Tongan heritage, will take part in a variety of events. She will conduct coaching clinics for up-and-coming athletes, attend community events, and visit New Zealand funded projects, including the Just Play football programme and Pacific Science for Healthy Literacy project.
New Zealand High Commissioner, HE Sarah Walsh said that Valerie’s sporting success is celebrated in both New Zealand and Tonga.
“She is a New Zealander with family ties to Tonga and is a great role model for all of us. Her visit to Tonga will help promote healthy eating and an active lifestyle for youth and community more broadly. She will also be an inspiration for high performance and up-and-coming athletes, supporting them to go to next level of competition.”
The public are invited to observe two events next week.
- Monday 31 October, 3pm - Just Play Festival held at Veitongo football field.
- Tuesday 1 November, 9.30am – Coach Clinic at Teufaiva Stadium for up-and-coming athletes.
