New Fire Station opens in Ha’apai [1]

A new $307,000 fire station in Pangai, Ha’apai, funded by the National Emergency Management Office and Committee was officially opened on 25 October 2016 by Pangai District Officer, Mr Langi Tonga'onevai.
The new fire station was built to replace the old one destroyed by Cyclone Ian when it wreaked havoc across the Ha’apai Group in January 2014.
Five Star Construction started works on the fire station this year on 20 May and completed it on 19 October. The building is 194.58m2 and contains a office, bedroom, kitchen, storeroom, bathroom amenities and a garage to house two fire trucks.
Pangai Fire Station employs eight people.
The Commissioner of Fire and Emergency Services, Mr Lofia Heimuli, along with NEMO representative, Mr Mafua Maka, Government officials, and District & Town Officers and others attended the opening.
