Former Mate Ma’a Tonga centre Solomone Kata will debut for New Zealand this Saturday October 15 against Australia in Perth. The Vava’u born 23-year-old was the top try scorer for his NRL team the New Zealand Warriors this year, scoring 15 tries in 21 games in the 2016 NRL season. He was announced as part of the Kiwis squad last week.

Solomone moved to New Zealand in 2011 on a Rugby scholarship to Sacred Heart College in Auckland. He made his NRL debut for the Warriors last year 2015 and has immediately become a star player. He has played four tests for Tonga since 2014 including this year’s test match against Samoa in May.

Other former Tongan reps named in the Kiwis lineup are Jason Taumalolo (23) and Manu Ma’u (28). Jason Taumalolo currently plays for the North Queensland Cowboys and Manu Ma’u for the Parrmatta Eels.
