HRH Princess Pilolevu Tuita launched a "Pink Corner" Library for breast cancer awareness today, October 12 at Tupou Tertiary Institute, Fasi.
The corner provides a few books and magazines in English about breast cancer, pamphlets and brochures in Tongan on self-examination and advice printed by the Tonga Breast Cancer Inc.
Christine ‘Uta’atu, Treasurer, said since the establishment of Tonga Brest Cancer Society in 2007 various persons have donated books, brochures and other userful information on breast cancer.
"We want to establish a place where women can come to get information on breast cancer," she said.
She said breast cancer does not only affect the patient but also their family and community. "We continue to stress the importance to go see a doctor if one detects something is wrong and discuss with their families, this is the first stage," she said.
“We hope this corner at the library can help the public be informed about breast cancer at all times. There are not many books now, but it is a start, and we will continue to upgrade from here.”
Christine also thanked the Tupou Tertiary Institute for the space and people who donated the materials.
Pink October is breast cancer awareness month marked with various events in Nuku’alofa.
The Princess was accompanied by her youngest daughter Hon. Halaevalu Moheofo, who works at the institute.
