Tonga’s Under-17 Men’s Soccer team defeated American Samoa by two points to zero in their final game of the OFC U-17 Preliminary Tournament last Friday July 8 in Apia, Samoa.

Team Tonga scored both of its goals in the first half of the match with Tevita Kau scoring a goal in the 11^th minute and Ofa Kite in the 32^nd minute.

The win was Tonga’s first at the tournament after a 1 -1 draw to Samoa and 3 -2 (July 6) loss to the Cook Islands (July 4). In the final standings of the tournament, Tonga was ranked third out of four teams with American Samoa being ranked last.

Hosts Samoa won the tournament after beating the tournament favourites Cook Islands by two points to zero. The win means Samoa secures a place at next year’s 2017 OFC U-17 Championship in Tahiti.
