The Salvation Army is part of the worldwide Christian Church operating in 127 countries with a mission to care for people, transform lives and reform society.
The church started working in Tonga in 1986 and has established a number of churches (corps) that run alongside their lively and quality social services outreach in Tongatapu and Vava’u. These services include an alcohol and drug awareness program, two kindergartens, youth and children’s development, women and men’s ministries, court and prison work, community support such as food parcels, and emergency and natural disaster relief work.
Regional Commander Captain Sila Siufanga said although a small part of the church is in Tonga, the people of the Salvation Army have a big heart and work tirelessly to practically show the love of Christ to their community.
“I am proud of the Salvationists in Tonga for all they have achieved in service of God. I am also excited to what the next 30-years of service for the Salvation Army will look like as we continue to do our part in the work of God’s kingdom," he said.
