A police officer and two passengers died when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree at 'Ahau early this morning. Another passenger, the wife of the police officer, suffered serious injuries, Tonga Police reported.

The crash happened at about 4:00am today, Saturday July 2.

Police responded to an incident involving a motor vehicle that had crashed into a toa tree on Hihifo Road at the village of ‘Ahau. They reported that the driver of the crashed vehicle was an off duty Police Officer who died at the scene along with two female passengers. Another passenger has been confirmed as the police officer’s wife who has been hospitalised with serious injuries. 

Commissioner of Police Stephen Caldwell said the full circumstances of the incident are being investigated and the Police are offering full support to the families.
