The Official Draw for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Papua New Guinea took place in Zurich on Thursday, 17 March, with the 16 participating nations placed into four groups ahead of the tournament kick-off on 13 November in Port Moresby.

As hosts of the competition, Papua New Guinea have automatically qualified for the tournament and are the only Pacific Island country in the draw. They meet Brazil in the opening day matches.

New Zealand secured Oceania's lone berth by winning the qualifying competition, which was played in October 2015 in Tonga. New Zealand will now meet France, USA and Ghana in the World Cup Group C.

Australia - in the Asia division - missed out when Japan, Korea Republic and Korea DPR secured the Asian qualifiers in August.

"The U-20 Women's World Cup is a great event," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said. "I've been to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and it was a great experience. I can tell you the weather will be beautiful. What will be even more beautiful is that Papua New Guinea will greet the world and the world will discover Papua New Guinea. I'm sure Papua New Guinea will excel and I'm sure the 16 teams will as well on the pitch."

The tournament is held in even-numbered years and started in 2002. Three times World Cup winner, Germany is the reigning champion.
