A 52-year-old man is believed to have died from electrocution at Ta’anga on ‘Eua on Thursday night, 17 March.

Police in Nuku’alofa said the incident took place around 8:25pm at his home.

He had just returned home from sea and went to turn on the outside light of his house, which was a 4ft flourescent tube. When the light did not come on, he went to check and touched the bulb allegedly causing the electrocution.

His daughter told the police that she heard someone falling and when she ran to see, saw her father lying on the floor with the light tube on top of him.

He was rushed to hospital and was confirmed to have passed away.

This is the second electrocution reported this week in Tonga. Teacher Mele Lausiva Felemi Manu (41) was electrocuted at Tupou College, Toloa, on 15 March.
