Community patrols help keep Ha’apai communities safe [1]

Community patrol volunteers in Ha'apai this week received much needed equipment from Tonga Police to help keep their communities safe.

Head of the Tonga Police Community Policing, Chief Inspector ‘Emaloni Tongi, and his team distributed vests and torch to volunteers in Foa, Lifuka, Kauvai, Mo’unga’one, Lofanga, ‘Uiha and Felemea.

The volunteers included 27 from Foa, 17 from Lifuka and 14 from Ha’ano, among the other districts.

Tonga Police said that while the volunteers have no authority to arrest anyone, their patrols help to reduce crimes in their villages.

The team included New Zealand Advisor Supt Colin McPherson, Police Constable Finau, Senior Constable Mahe from Pangai Police District and Telesia Adams-Parton, Tonga Police Communications Officer.
