Representatives of secondary schools in Tongatapu gathered at the CBD to mark the International Day of Peace on Friday, 25 September in a special bonding program aimed to stop school fights.
The International Day of Peace is marked annually on 21 September, declared by the United Nations General Assembly as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and people.
Students from Tupou College, Tonga College, Liahona High School, Tonga High School and Queen Salote College held a candle procession with the Chief Superintendent Tevita Fifita and other school representatives.
Vanessa Heleta, Director of Talitha Project, said this program was organized especially to promote peace in Tonga particularly among students in Tongatapu.
“We want them to wake up and stop the fights. We hope this program will help them bond as friends and become peace builders for Tonga,” she said.
Other items included singing, skits and musical performances by the Tupou College brass band.
Talitha Project organized the event in conjunction with the Youth Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs funded by FemLINK.
