A 52-year-old husband has been charged with bodily harm for a violent domestic assault when he allegedly threw boiling water on his wife, who remains hospitalized with severe burns.
The Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Tevita Fifita said today the crime happened at Sopu around 5-6:00 am on Monday, 24 August.
It is alleged that the husband had boiled the pot of hot water himself and threw the hot water on his wife (47) who was in the bathroom, due to an argument.
“The accused has been charged with causing bodily harm but we expect to lay more charges as we wait on the doctor’s report,” he said.
In the meantime, he remains in police custody to appear at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 August.
The wife is being treated at Vaiola Hospital for her severe burns, said Fifita.
