Niuas Agricultural shows opened [1]

The first two of six Royal Agricultural, Fisheries and Industrial Shows this year were opened in Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou on August 5-6.
King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u who flew to both outer islands firstly opened the Niuatoputapu show at Matangimalie grounds on Wednesday, 5 August, and Niuafo’ou at Latufuipeka grounds on Thursday, 6 August.
Taniela Hakaumotu of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries who is in Niuafo'ou said that both shows had successfully showcased food crops, fish, seafood and women's fine woven mats and handicrafts.
He said colourful traditional dances were also performed for the King and Queen by secondary school students on both islands including tau’olunga, tau fakaniua and lakalaka.
The show continues to Vava’u this Saturday 8 August, Ha'apai on 12 August and 'Eua on 15 August.
Tongatapu will conclude the annual events on August 21-22.
