Tonga's star sprinter Tomasi Ma’asi is into the Finals this week after winning the 100m and 200m sprints in his division at the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, USA.

Tomasi has previously won three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 400m at the 2013 Special Olympics, Asia Pacific Games in Australia

Vanessa Heleta reported today said they are hopeful for a medal for Tonga from Tomasi’s finals.

Tevita Tilini came third in the mini javelin division and it will be confirmed later if he is going to be in the finals. While, Tutaleva Fehoko came second in her 25m run and was last in 50m run. I think she will make it to the finals in the 25m run, said Vanessa.

The fourth competitor Fane Helu came fifth in her shot put division.

“Their self confidence has been boosted and they get to meet people from all over the world which is what really matters.”

More than 6000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from 165 nations are competing in the Games Olympic type sports from July 25 to August 2.
