Tupou College won the 2015 brass bands competition of the Inter-College Brass Band Music Festival that ended on Friday, 24 July at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.

Tonga Police Director of Music, Acting Superintendent 'Atunaisa Taumoepeau said Tupou College had two brass bands in the competition including a junior band.

He said the all-boys boarding school of the Free Wesleyan Church was the overall winner of Group 1 and 2. The school also won the street march competition through the Central Business District last Friday.

The drum major was awarded to Tailulu College from Vava’u, he said.

‘Atunaisa said this year's competition showed great improvement from the school brass bands through the students talent and dedication.

“The aim of the program is music bringing schools together, which it has. In general, it was a successful event which we hope to continue annually with the support of Secondary School Principals and bandmasters,” he said.

Eight schools with nine bands took part including Tupou College (2 bands), Tonga College, Queen Salote College, Tupou High School, ‘Apifo’ou College, Tailulu College Tongatapu, Tailulu College Vava'u, and St Andrews High School.

Winners and runners-ups were awarded trophies and each participating school received $500 pa’anga cash and 'Atunaisa also thanked the main sponsors for their support.

In Group 1, Tupou High School was placed in second and Queen Salote College in third. In Group 2 St Andrews High School was second and ‘Apifo’ou College third.
