Lord Tupou (74) of Kolofo’ou was formally inducted to TASANOC's "Tonga Hall of Fame", on Friday night, May 29, by ‘Ahongalu Fusimalohi, the Acting President of the Tonga Sports Association and the National Olympic Committee (TASANOC).

‘Ahongalu made the announcement at a reception to honour Lord Tupou, after he was the first Tongan to be awarded the Olympic Order last month in Fiji, in recognition of his long service to sports in Tonga.

Lord Tupou was one of three Pacific Islanders and an Australian to receive the Olympic Order from the President of the International Olympic Committee, Hon. Tomas Bach at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva, on May 1.

TASANOC

‘Ahongalu said that TASANOC also wanted to recognise Lord Tupou's dedication to the development of sports and the setting up of the Tonga Amateur Sports Association during the 1970s. Lord Tupou was Acting President and President of TASANOC for 20 consecutive years from 1992 to 2012, and is currently a member of the Organising Committee for the 2019 Pacific Games to be held in Tonga.

The occasion was hosted by the President and members of the Executive Board of TASANOC and was held at the new Ladies and Gentlemen’s Club in the Nuku’alofa CBD.

‘Ahongalu Fusimalohi took over as the Interim CEO of the Tonga Amateur Sports Association in early May from Takitoa Taumoepeau, the Secretary General. Takitoa has become an Ex-Officio Member of the the Tonga 2019 Pacific Games Committee.

Lord Tupou is currently the Tongan Resident High Court Judge of the Court of Appeal.
