A police manhunt is continuing in Tongatapu for a 28-year-old male suspect who is on the run after allegedly imprisoning his partner at a plantation in Puke last month.

The Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Tevita Fifita said today the police operation, which began at various areas on Thursday 19 March, continues today.

“We have not released his name at this stage due to this operation and we have positive leads that we are following,” he said.

On 27 February, the suspect from Navutoka is alleged to have unlawfully imprisoned his 20-year old partner inside a hut where they lived in at the plantation.

The victim from Vaini was allegedly assaulted before being tied-up and locked inside the hut. She was left without food and water for several days while he disappeared.

Police said she managed to escape and got help. The young woman was admitted to Vaiola Hospital for medical treatment before being released.
