First victory for Tonga A in Pacific Challenge Cup [1]

Tonga A has hatched its first victory of the Pacific Challenge Cup by beating Japan A 60-24 in Suva, Fiji on Wednesday, March 18.

Tonga A scored five tries in the first half to lead at halftime 31 – 7. Junior Japan managed four tries, including two by a Tongan export player, Ata’ata Moeakiola.

Tonga A’s tries were scored by Frank Havea, Siale Talakai, Liueli Simote, Leiataua Kilifa and Topiese Ahia. Each player scored a double.

Tonga A will play Juior Japan again next Monday, March 23 to decide who comes last in the tournament.

The Fiji Warriors will play the Pampas XV for the grand final after they defeated Samoa A 42 - 20. Canada A will play Samoa A to decide third-place.

Meanwhile, Tonga’s Under-20’s team narrowly lost (40-36) to the Australian Under 20’s Barbarians team yesterday March 19 in Canberra, Australia.
