Tonga’s national electric company, Tonga Power Ltd has announced an 8.5% reduction in the electricity tariff.  The new prices will be effective from this Sunday, February 1.

The current electricity tariff is 87.79 Seniti per kWh, the new tariff effective from Sunday will be 80.27 Seniti. The new price cut applies to all consumers in Tongatapu, Vava’u, ‘Eua and Ha’apai.

According to Tonga Power, the tariff adjustment is determined by a concession contract between Tonga Power and the Government, managed by the Electricity Commision. The competent authority is the Tongan Government Agency, which sets the landed price of diesel which Tonga Power Ltd use for their power generation.
