Much needed new medical equipment and supplies were presented to Ngu Hospital, Neiafu, on Wednesday 6 August from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints.
The supplies bought with a total budget of $108,200 pa’anga included surgical instruments such as tubes, blades, and oxygen masks for both children and adults.
Dr Sepiuta Lopeti thanked the church for the generous donation that will assist in caring for the patients at the hospital.
'Ana Ika, Director of the Humanitarian Aid of the LDS Church in Tonga, said the equipment would help to improve the health care of the people in the outer island group. Doctors would be able to treat patients they previously had to send to Tongatapu because they did not have access to the equipment and supplies in the past.
This is the second half of a shipment of medical supplies to the hospital with the first part presented in May this year.
President ‘Ofa K. Veni, the chairman of the Uelofea Committee of the LDS in Vava’u, presented the donation to the Governor of Vava'u Lord Fulivai, Dr Sepiuta Lopeti and Dr John Lee Taione, the doctor in charge in Vava'u.
