Island fashion on show at Miss Heilala [1]

Creative and unique island creation outfits were showcased last night 10 July, during the final judging event of the Miss Heilala Pageant, at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.
The seven contestants wore eye-catching outfits that were made from a range of local materials, including sea shells, locally processed tapa cloth, pandanus and coconut leaves.
The top four contestants with the most outstanding outfits were announced at the end of the show. They were Miss ‘Unuaki ‘o Tonga, Mamana Fine; Miss Lady Maria Australia, Nicole Naufahu; Miss FISA/MV ‘Otuanga’ofa, Sakae Tamo’ua and Miss Bou’s Fashion, Cassandra Ngaluafe.
The new Miss Heilala will be announced tonight during the Heilala Ball at Joe’s Kahana Lagoon.
Prizes
The new Miss Heilala 2014-15 will walk away with $5,000 cash and return tickets for two to Los Angeles.
The first runner up will receive $2,000 with return tickets for two to Honolulu, and the second runner up gets $1,000 and two return tickets to Auckland.
The third runner up will be awarded $750 cash prize, while the remaining three contestants receive consolation prizes of $500 each.
Other cash prizes will also be awarded to winners of the five judging events in the sarong, talent, interview, tau’olunga and island creation. The contestant with the best tau’olunga costume will receive $500 cash prize.
The main sponsors Digicel Tonga is donating all of the cash prizes while Fiji Airways provides the air tickets.
