Paea Winston Helu (32) the man charged with the murder of a 19-year-old man in Nuku’alofa on Sunday, May 11 remains in custody after appearing at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate’s Court today, May 20.

The accused from Hala-‘o-Vave is expected to appear next at the lower court on Monday, June 23.

Police had reported the accused who turned himself in on May 11 admitted to assaulting the victim Feleti Veikoso who was found lying injured in front of the Government Primary School at Hala-‘o-Vave early that same morning.

It is alleged around 2:00am on Sunday morning the accused came and found the victim inside his car, which was parked in front of the ‘Uliti Uata Building in the CBD. He believed that he was trying to steal his car radio and he was angry.

The accused told police he then assaulted the victim inside the car using his fist before taking him to another location, where he continued the assault before dumping the injured youth in front of the primary school compound.

The victim died on that same morning at Vaiola Hospital.
