Cabinet approves 2014 Agriculture Show dates [1]

This year’s Royal Agricultural Show will be held in August, starting in Niuatoputapu on August 6 and ending in Tongatapu on August 23, Cabinet announced yesterday.

Six agricultural shows will be held on five Islands: Niuatoputapu, Niuafo’ou, Vava’u, ‘Eua and Tongatapu. The annual event is coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Forests and Fisheries to encourage the development of the sectors and food security.

A notable exception to the Royal Agriculture Show this year is Ha’apai. There will be no show in Ha’apai because of the damage caused to the islands by Tropical Cyclone Ian in January. Pre-judged competitions however will still continue in Ha’apai. Exhibits and prize-winners from Ha’apai will have transport costs covered for the show in Tongatapu.
