Japan to end whaling in Southern Ocean [1]

The Government of Japan has stated that it will abide by a ruling from the International Court of Justice to end the country’s whaling program in the Southern Ocean.
The ruling was made on Monday, 31 March at the International Court of Justice in Hague, Netherlands.
Japan’s chief negotiator Koji Tsuruoka stated, “As a state that respects the rule of law….and as a responsible member of the global community, Japan will abide by the decision of the court,”
The ruling has been praised by the governments of Australia and New Zealand as well as from anti-whaling groups.
