Jury finds uncle guilty of machete attack [1]

Patelesio Mafi (66) has been remanded in custody for a month, awaiting to be sentenced after he was convicted of attacking his nephew, Richard Mafi (39) with a machete at the family Ha’amoko Bakery in 2011.
A jury this afternoon, unanimously declared the accused guilty of one count of grievous bodily harm when he hit Richard Mafi with a machete during a dispute on 15 February, 2011 at the bakery in Ma’ufanga.
Mr Justice Charles Cato ordered Patelesio to be remanded in custody until his sentencing on April 24, at the Supreme Court, Nuku’alofa.
The jury trial started at the beginning of the week, and the Crown was represented by Joan Puloka and 'Ofa Pouono was for the accused.
