Hundreds of rugby balls and more than a thousand pairs of rugby shorts, and other rugby kit has been donated to Tongatapu Secondary Schools and over a hundred rugby balls were given to school children in Ha’apai by a Dunedin business Leslie Rugby.
The rugby gear was handed over by the New Zealand High Commissioner, Mark Talbot on behalf Leslie Rugby. The gear was received by the President of the Tongatapu Secondary Schools Association, Fr ‘Aisake Vaisima on behalf of the schools on March 14.
“New Zealanders and Tongans are fanatical about rugby,” said the High Commissioner. “So it is a delight to be able to do more than just share that passion; to do something that will help Tongan youth enjoy their rugby more. I am especially grateful to Leslie Rugby and Matson Shipping Line for their generosity in making this gift to Tonga”
Fr Vaisima said that there were limited budgets for sports in schools and Tongatapu Secondary Schools were very grateful and he thanked the donors for this timely assistance.
“The Rugby kit will be a great boost for the students’ enthusiasm and enjoyment of rugby,” he said.
