The Fiji Democracy and Freedom Movement strongly condemns the arrest and the drummed up charges brought against Fiji's second highest Paramount Chief and Leader of the Burebasaga Confederacy, Ro Teimumu Kepa.
The Movement also strongly condemns the systematic singling out and arrest of senior ministers and key officials of the Methodist Church of Fiji in the last two weeks. This is another gross violation of basic human rights by the illegal dictatorship of Commodore Bainimarama. Not only does it violate Bill of Rights sections of the 1997 Constitution that Bainimarama purports to have abrogated, it also violates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and common human decency.
Such acts by Commodore Bainimarama continues to prove to the World that he is a common criminal with evil intents and his words should not be taken seriously or believed.
The Fiji Democracy and Freedom Movement urges the people of Fiji to unite behind the People of the Vanua of Rewa and the Methodist Church and defy Fiji's Illegal Dictatorship's attempts to ban the planned Methodist Church Conference in Rewa. The People of Fiji has endured the outrageous and unethical leadership of Commodore Bainimarama in silence for almost three years now and it is high time the People must realise that if they want him removed, they must take the first step before the outside world could offer their moral and political support. No one from outside is going to take the first step to free Fiji unless the People of Fiji help themselves first.
The Movement urges the people of Fiji to make use of the "window of opportunity" available to them in August before it closes again. The 300,000 Methodist are about to defy the ban of their Annual Conference by an illegal government. Join them on the streets in peaceful protest and defiance and end your misery from the evil unjust hands of tyranny. Fiji Democracy and Freedom Movement, 29/07/09.
