Tonga's general election set for November 16 [1]

Tongans will go to the polls on November 16 in a General Election, to be held a year ahead of schedule.
King Tupou VI issued the Writs of Election yesterday 5 September, confirming the Legislative Assembly General Election to be held on Thursday 16 November, 2017.
The Electoral Commission has called for the nomination of candidates, who must register over two-days from 27-28 September. The nomination for candidates will open from 10:00am to 3:00pm at the Office of the Electoral Commission in Nuku’alofa, the Governor’s Offices in Vava’u and Ha’apai, and at the Offices of Government Representatives in ‘Eua, Niuatoputapu and Niuafo’ou.
In a statement this afternoon the Tonga Electoral Commission urged candidates to be careful in submitting their documents.

The general election follows the dissolution of parliament by King Tupou VI on August 24.
