The Tonga Women’s U-17 soccer team scored a convincing 4 -1 victory over Samoa in the Cook Islands last Saturday, January 16.
The win is Tonga’s first at the Oceania Football Confederation Championships, which commenced last week. The girls lost their opening match against New Caledonia 5 – 0.
Tonga’s goal scorers were Alexandra Fifita, Seini Lutu, Mele Kafa and Ana Polovili.
The team will now face tournament favourites New Zealand this afternoon. New Zealand has already thrashed opponents New Caledonia 12 -0 and Samoa 11 – 0. If Tonga were to win or lose by a narrow margin, they could secure a semi-final spot in the competition.
