Parents charged over baby’s death [1]

A couple has been charged with manslaughter by negligence over the death of their six-month-old baby boy on February 2 at Fangaloto.

The baby boy was dead when his parents brought him to hospital on February 2.

According to the Police the baby fell sick on January 30 from diarrhea, and was vomiting. It is alleged that the parents did not seek any medical assistance and the baby died at home. 

Doctors confirmed the cause of death was due to dehydration because of an intense case of diarrhea and vomiting.

The mother (28) and father (32), who are in a de-facto relationship remained in custody after being arrested and charged with manslaughter by negligence on Tuesday, February 18.

They were expected to appear at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 24.
