Nuku'alofa has been sweltering under the hottest temperatures for the year this week, during the sun's overpass of Tonga's latitudes.
Monday, February 10 is so far the hottest day for the year in Nuku'alofa reaching a maximum temperature of 33 celcius.
Tonga's Meteorological Services Center at Fua’amotu stated that February is normally the hottest month of the year because the sun's rays are focused directly on our latitude, around the last week of January to the first two-weeks of February.
Although, February 10 recorded the hottest so far this year it is not the hottest the capital had seen. The highest temperature recorded was 33.4 celcius on February 10, 2009 in Nuku'alofa.
The centre recorded the temperature on February 13 at 32.5 celcius and 32 celcius for February 11-12.
Tonga’s cyclone season annual begins in November and ends in April.
