Images of Faleloa village before and after Cyclone Ian, show how lush vegetation has been stripped from Foa Island. Before Cyclone Ian, Faleloa homes were surrounded by breadfruit trees, mangoes and bananas and other food crops.
Photographs of Faleloa taken by Tonga Power linesmen yesterday can be compared to photos of the same area taken by Matangi Tonga in June 2011. The images show how the village, home to 353 people, was ripped apart by Tropical Cyclone Ian on January 11. The photos were taken from the road at the top of the rise at Faleloa, which had 61 homes, and suffered 70% damage.
