Four New Year's babies arrive in Tonga [1]

Four babies were born in Tonga’s hospitals on New Year's morning, the first at Ngu Hospital, Vavau, and three at Vaiola Hospital in Tongatapu.
Tonga’s first baby for 2014, was a 10 pounds six ounces girl, born in Neiafu, at 12.03 am to Meleane and Siosifa Tupou of Vaimalo. Nurse Lavinia Lokotui reported that the mother and baby were doing well, and the parents had yet to name their daughter. Lavinia said that by mid-day today, only one New Year's baby had been born at Ngu Hospital , although a number of mothers were expecting to give birth any time soon.

At Vaiola Hospital, Nuku'alofa, a 6lb baby girl was born at 12.23am to ‘Aulola and Malakai Vakalahi of Pahu. Makeleta Young Afeaki Vakalahi is their fourth child.
Dr Saia Piukala said that from mid-night last night to mid-day today three babies were born at Vaiola Hospital, one during the night, and two this morning.
For the rest of Tonga there were no births recorded in Ha‘apai, ‘Eua and the Niuas, during the first 12 hours of 2014.
