Tupou College willful damage case adjourned to 2014 [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Thursday, November 21, 2013 - 19:00.  Updated on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 - 18:57.

The case against 151 accused, including 147 students from Tupou College and four adults charged in relation to the violent attack on a home in Tofoa in July was further adjourned to February 2014.

The accused who are on bail are expected to appear next year on February 10-13, 2014 at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court after appearing at the lower court this week, where the prosecution disclosed all its documents to the defence and to the court.

The accused are similarly charged with conspiracy to commit willful damage and unlawful assembly among other charges. The adults, including a Tupou College teacher, two bus drivers and a truck driver, are also facing charges of aiding the criminal damage.

The violent attack at the home on the night of July 18, 2013 left an ex-student Taniela Halahuni in a coma and a Tonga College student Daniel Mahe Jr injured. Both victims have since been discharged from hospital.
