Seven District Officers in Tongatapu are now connected to the internet, thanks to  a project launched by the Ministry of Internal Affairs earlier this month.

Lord Vaea the Minister of Internal Affairs launched the internet connection for the offices of the Kolofo’ou District Officer at Ma’ufanga, Vaini District Officer in Pahu, the Tatakamotonga District Officer at Fua’amotu and the Lapaha Distict on November 9-8.

District and Town Officers are required to provide monthly reports to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the new facility will help speed up their work.

Lopeti Senituli the Ministry of Internal Affairs CEO said they had done computer training for the Tongatapu District and Town Officers. “We expect the officers would be able to utilise the internet connection in their offices to send in their reports as well as enquiries,” he said.

The project hopes to extend to District Offices in the outer islands soon, with assistance from development partners.
