Tonga’s Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano is attending the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting Summit held this week, from 15-17 November in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Held every two-years, the CHOGM summit’s theme this year is ‘Growth with Equity, Inclusive Development” that includes three-days of executive and bilateral meetings of the Commonwealth Leaders and Heads of Government.

Queen Elizabeth II will open the Summit at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinafa Rajapaksa Theatre on 15 November with Prince Charles attending as a representative of the Head of the Commonwealth.

The Secretary-General of the Commonwealth HE Kamalesh Sharma hosted a meeting with Commonwealth Small States Foreign Ministers on 13-14 November focusing on particular challenges faced by small states, including Tonga, as they move towards their development goals while exploring avenues where the Commonwealth may continue to partner and assist.

Lord Tu’ivakano will take part in a roundtable discussions with other Heads of Government during a Commonwealth Business Forum and conduct bilateral talks with other leaders.

This is a good opportunity for Tonga to consolidate and foster stronger partnerships with prospective business sectors and provide a platform for Tonga to pave way for investment with other Commonwealth and international business community, stated the Prime Minister’s office in Nuku’alofa.

Commonwealth leaders are meeting to discuss global and Commonwealth issues.
