Ocean Princess welcomed in Nuku‘alofa [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Tuesday, November 12, 2013 - 04:00.  Updated on Thursday, May 1, 2014 - 15:10.

The cruise ship Ocean Princess based in Australia stopped over in Nuku‘alofa on November 12, 2013 with over 500 passengers and 300 crew.

Arriving this morning from Auckland, the visitors were greeted by handicraft sellers, taxi drivers and tour operators as they disembarked, while others visited the market and shops in the Central Business District.

The cruise ship was also the first to visit the capital in December last year after the new Vuna Wharf reconstructed with a Chinese loan, was opened by King Tupou VI.

The Ministry of Commerce, Tourism and Labour had initially confirmed a total of 17 cruise ships booked to visit Tonga this year, but due to bad weather and the Sunday law four were cancelled.

Ocean Princess, the 11th cruise ship to visit, departed for Apia this afternoon.
